In our interview with Dennese at High Point Market, she shared her perspective on the value of industry events and education. “I’ve been coming to market for many years, and one of the things it has added as a bonus for the interior design industry is the networking opportunities and seminars.”
Dennese states that the seminars are very educational. They help you build your business on the right path, give you wisdom into how you can do things differently, and provide those ‘aha’ moments that reassure you’re moving in the right direction.
A Savvy Decision to Diversify Her Interior Design Projects
Her diverse portfolio includes residential projects, multifamily housing, and small commercial spaces. “I’ve looked at the big picture of how I function as a business and decided a few years ago that I should diversify,” Dennese explained. “So I work not only in residential, which is my love, but also in multifamily and small commercial projects.“
She highlighted the contrast between project types: “Multifamily design is more value-driven. Developers focus on maximizing their investment while staying on trend to appeal to their target market. They consider who their client is, who they’re going to sell to, who they’re going to rent to.” On the other hand, she states, “residential design is deeply personal, it’s about creating a sanctuary that reflects the homeowner’s personality and lifestyle. “
Interior Designer for Celebrities and Pro Athletes
Dennese’s expertise extends to working with high-profile clients, including celebrities and athletes. “Working with celebrities presents unique challenges,” she revealed. “For example, we worked with an athlete who transitioned from the Giants to Green Bay. It was a fast-paced project where we prioritized readily available items to complete his home before the season started. Usually, we lean toward custom solutions, but this required a quick turnaround.”
