I think people are too quick to relegate their kids’ artwork to the fridge or the child’s own room. There are so many creative things you can do to show off your child’s art – it will make your kids feel great, and you’ll enjoy the cheerful, quirky world they draw and paint about.

Here are just a few ideas I’ve seen recently:

  • Hang a length of clothesline or other string along a wall in your hallway. Use colorful clothes pins to attach artwork your child creates.
  • Invest in 3-5 easy-change frames, and have your kids help you choose special pieces of artwork to “feature” in each frame. Check out improvementscatalog.com and potterybarnkids.com for some options.
  • Get a large piece of corkboard, and create a grid on it using ribbon or colorful yarn. Display kids’ artwork in the grid – easy to change as new masterpieces are created!
  • Install a magnetic or corkboard strip along the wall in your breakfast room or family room. Let your kids choose which artwork to show off each week.
  • Create customized gifts for friends and family – scan images into online services like Kodak.com and snapfish.com (to make albums, calendars, and more), photo.stamps.com (to make postage stamps of your kids’ art), and even Land’s End (tote bags).
  • Find an old (or new) set of tall wooden shutters and use binder clips to attach artwork to the slats…this could even be a beautiful headboard.
  • Laminate the art and create placements, mousepads, or coasters out of it.
  • Be sure to choose a favorite piece of artwork and have it professionally framed and displayed in a prominent place – your child will be proud, and the artwork will make a nice conversation piece.
  • Tape the art into your planner, inside a kitchen cabinet, or file cabinet in your office. It will be a “secret” reminder of your pride and joy when you’re not with him/her, and it will be a bright spot when you’re doing tasks that are dreary.
